Complete water pumps
The seawater pump draws cooling water through the intake and sends it through the heat exchanger or engine before the water leaves through the exhaust. If the pump no longer provides enough flow, the engine can overheat.
Here you’ll find complete seawater, raw-water and impeller pumps for Volvo Penta, Yanmar, Vetus and other brands. Depending on the application, genuine, aftermarket, used and refurbished pumps may be available. Always read the product information to check the condition and what is included.
This category mainly contains complete pumps. If the pump housing and shaft are still in good condition, replacing only the
impeller, seal, bearing or wear plate may be enough.
Seawater pump or circulation pump?
The seawater pump and circulation pump have different jobs. A seawater pump draws water from outside the boat and moves it through the cooling system. It normally uses a flexible rubber impeller.
A circulation pump moves coolant through the closed circuit between the engine and heat exchanger. It is usually driven by a belt or gear and does not use the same type of flexible impeller. If you need this type of pump, see our
circulation pumps.
Check which pump has failed before ordering. Reduced water from the exhaust may point to the seawater side, but a blocked intake, damaged impeller, restricted heat exchanger or collapsed hose can cause similar symptoms.
Inspect the complete cooling system
Before fitting a new pump, inspect the hoses, clamps and water intake. Check whether broken pieces from an old impeller are still inside the system. These pieces can restrict the flow through a pipe, thermostat housing or heat exchanger.
A leaking pump can be caused by a worn seal, damaged shaft or corrosion inside the housing. Shaft play or bearing noise can mean that replacing only the impeller will not be enough.
You can find related pipes, heat exchangers and cooling parts in our
Cooling Systems category.
Check the original pump number
Water pumps can change between versions of the same engine. Differences may include the mounting holes, shaft, pulley, gear, hose connections and direction of rotation.
Compare the original pump number with the references on the product page. Also check the complete engine model and serial number. If the number is unreadable, send us clear photos of the pump, its mounting and all connections so we can help you identify the correct replacement.
