Water pump parts
A worn seawater pump does not always need to be replaced completely. Depending on its condition, it may be possible to repair the pump with a new cover, wear plate, shaft, bearing, seal or repair kit.
Here you’ll find parts for seawater and impeller pumps used on Volvo Penta, Yanmar and other marine engines. The exact contents differ between products. Some repair kits contain only seals and O-rings, while others also include bearings, circlips, washers, a shaft or pump cover.
If the complete pump needs replacing, view our
water pumps. Individual replacement
impellers are listed separately.
Check the pump before ordering
Use the part number from the pump or old component whenever possible. Engines from the same series can be fitted with different pumps, especially when the pump has previously been replaced.
Compare the shaft diameter, pump-cover shape, mounting points and any numbers cast or stamped into the housing. The engine model alone may not be enough to identify all internal pump parts.
If you are unsure, send us the complete engine model, serial number and clear photos of the pump. A photo with the cover removed can help when identifying wear plates, shafts and seals.
Repairing a seawater pump
Water leaking from the drain or telltale hole can indicate a worn shaft seal. Movement in the shaft may point to worn bearings, while grooves in the cover or wear plate can reduce the pump’s ability to draw cooling water.
Before ordering a repair kit, inspect the pump housing and shaft carefully. A badly corroded housing or deeply worn shaft may make fitting separate repair parts uneconomical. In that case, replacing the complete pump may be the better option.
When rebuilding the pump, fit every seal in the correct direction and follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Check that the shaft turns freely after assembly. Install the correct impeller and gasket, open the seawater supply and check for leaks and cooling-water flow after starting the engine.
