Belts for the alternator, water pump and other equipment
A worn or loose belt can cause charging problems, overheating or loss of power to other equipment. On many engines, the same belt drives both the alternator and circulation pump. Larger Volvo Penta models may use separate belts for the alternator, supercharger, power steering pump or other equipment.
Here you’ll find traditional V-belts, multi-rib belts and belt sets for Volvo Penta, Yanmar, Nanni, Perkins and other brands. We also supply belt tensioners and pulleys for applications where these are part of the drive system.
For a more specific selection, view our

alternators.
Check the number and belt position
Do not choose a belt based only on its length or the main engine model. Two engines with a similar model designation may use different belts depending on their version, production year or installed equipment.
Check the part number printed on the old belt whenever it is still readable. Also check what the belt drives. An alternator belt may be different from a circulation-pump, supercharger or power-steering belt fitted to the same engine.
Some engines use a matched pair of belts. In that case, both belts should normally be replaced together so they share the load evenly. The product page will state whether the item is supplied as one belt or as a set.
When should a belt be replaced?
Inspect the belt for cracks, polished sides, frayed edges, missing ribs and signs of oil or coolant contamination. A belt that squeals, sits too deeply in the pulley or needs regular retensioning may also be due for replacement.
Check the pulley grooves and tensioner while the belt is removed. A damaged pulley, worn bearing or incorrect tension can quickly damage a new belt. It is also sensible to carry the correct spare belt on board.
Belts are often ordered together with filters and an impeller. View our
service kits if you are preparing for regular maintenance.
If you cannot identify the correct belt, send us the engine model, serial number, old belt number and a photo showing where it is fitted.
