A saildrive contains several seals, O-rings and other parts that keep oil inside the drive and seawater outside. These parts wear over time and may also be damaged by corrosion, fishing line around the propeller shaft or incorrect assembly. Check which repair the kit is for

Not every saildrive repair kit is intended for the same job. A propeller-shaft seal kit is different from a diaphragm or hull-seal kit. Other sets may only contain O-rings and seals for the output shaft or upper housing. Check the product description carefully to see what is included. Some kits contain seals only, while others also include gaskets, locking rings, spacers or mounting parts. Always identify the exact saildrive model before ordering. Common Volvo Penta drives include the 110S, 120S, 130S, 150S and MS25S. Yanmar saildrives include models such as the SD20, SD25, SD30, SD31, SD40, SD50 and SD60. This does not mean that one kit fits every drive in the same range.

Finding the correct kit

The saildrive identification plate or serial number is normally the best starting point. Compare the original part number whenever possible. Also check whether the product is intended for the propeller shaft, upper gear housing, diaphragm or another part of the drive. Milky or discolored saildrive oil can indicate that water has entered the drive, often through a damaged seal. The cause should be found before fitting new parts. Inspect the shaft surface as well, because a worn or grooved shaft can quickly damage a new seal. If you are unsure, send us the saildrive model, serial number and the number from the old parts. Clear photos of the identification plate and the area being repaired can also help us check the correct kit.
