Starter motors for different engine brands
A worn or faulty starter motor can turn slowly, click without cranking or stop working completely. Here you’ll find replacement starter motors for Volvo Penta, Yanmar, Vetus, Nanni and Bukh engines. Parts for Solé, Perkins and other brands will also appear here when available.
Our selection includes starter motors for older engines as well as newer electronically controlled models. Depending on the application, you may find genuine parts, good aftermarket replacements and used starter motors.
For other charging and starting parts, view all our
electrical-system parts. If the engine starts but the battery is not charging correctly, also check our
alternators. Electrical problems can also be caused by damaged
wiring harnesses.
Check the starter before ordering
Starter motors that look similar are not always interchangeable. The housing, mounting holes, pinion and electrical connections can differ, even between closely related engine models.
Before ordering, compare:
- The number on the old starter motor
- The complete engine model and version
- The operating voltage
- The rated power
- The mounting position and bolt pattern
- The number of teeth on the pinion
- The electrical terminals and solenoid position
The engine model alone is not always enough. Manufacturers may have used different starter motors during production or replaced an older part number with a newer version. Searching with the number from the old starter is usually the quickest way to find the correct replacement.
Check the complete starting system
A starter that turns slowly is not necessarily defective. A weak battery, corroded terminals, damaged battery cables, a poor ground connection or a faulty relay can cause similar problems. Check the battery voltage and cable connections before replacing the starter motor.
If the starter clicks but does not turn, the problem may be in the solenoid, power supply or starter itself. A starter that turns normally but does not engage can have a problem with the pinion or flywheel ring gear.
Can’t find the correct starter motor for your Volvo Penta, Yanmar, Vetus, Nanni, Bukh, Solé, Perkins or another brand? Send us the engine model, serial number and the number shown on the old starter. Clear photos of the label, mounting flange and connections can also help us identify the correct part.
